Aviators’ eyeglasses, or pilot’s glasses, were originally developed in 1936 by Bausch & Lomb for pilots. They were designed to protect the pilot’s eyes while flying, and that is why they are called aviator glasses. While they were used by pilots in the military, in modern times aviator eyeglasses are a stylistic preference as they have thin wire frames and larger lenses that have an area two or three times the size of the eyeball, and often a double or triple bridge, commonly called a bullet hole, or flexible cable temples that hook behind the ears.
Aviators prescription eyewear is best suited for anyone that wants larger eyeglasses to accentuate their best features and a unique design to stand out. This type of frame is not typically recommended for anyone with a very small head or eyes as the larger frames may make these features appear even smaller but aviators’ eyeglasses can look striking on anyone that has an angular head shape or large features that they want to highlight.
Our shop has a large selection of brands, sizes, colours and materials to choose from when selecting aviators prescription eyewear and we are here to assist with selecting the best frames and style for your look and preference.
